Horay Bat
Pennsylvania is home to nine different species of bats, each contributing to our ecosystem in a different way. Whether it’s reducing the surplus population of mosquitos or other agricultural and forest insect pests, our bats are a much needed part of our environment.
Bats are also one of the more misunderstood animals in our world as well. Many see bats as a threat – mainly due to the cinematic portrayal of the bat as a dark, bloodsucking creature of the night. Nothing could be further from the truth. Bats are vital for maintaining balanced, healthy ecosystems in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania’s bat population, however is increasingly threatened by several issues, including white nose syndrome window strike, wind turbines, habitat loss, human disturbance, and pesticides/herbicides usage.
The Pennsylvania Bat Rescue and Rehabilitation Center provides rescue and rehabilitation support for injured, orphaned and distressed bats. Our staff and volunteers understand the importance of wildlife rehabilitation and have committed much of their lives to helping re-introduce our bats back into the wild.
We are committed to improving the well-being of bats and their habitat through education. Dispelling common misconceptions is essential to the conservation and protection of bats.
